we had arrived in the redwood forest.... still had a couple of days before we would attend a wedding in the middle of the eel river....we're a family of three living in oakland, california. as a new mother i'm working on creating and appreciating all those simple and wonderful moments in life that slip by so fast. the danish have a word for these moments that we cherish...' hygge.' this is what i live for. to be able to recognize and be present when life really happens to you is my constant and lifetime goal. this blog is a way of documenting and sharing these moments of 'hygge.'

Love Life: The Tale of Steve Fugate
Love Life: The Tale of Steve Fugate
i was listening to this man's story today at work on "hearing voices" which is on npr..... i was just about in tears standing there at my die cutter doing the most monotonous work.... this really touches my soul and inspires me in an indescribable way.... it's unbelievable how many amazing people are out there in the world.... makes me feel guilty that i don't try to get out there and meet them... you know?

lighten the load...
gave myself a haircut today.... looks exactly like the cut i got at a hair salon, which cost me thirty bucks! i'm never doing that again... i forgot how easy my hair was to cut.... it's curly enough so you can't really see the mistakes.... well at least i can't
i put it all in a ponytail in the back and cut that off... then i put most of the rest in a ponytail at the top of my head and cut that off.... worked pretty well
only had to fix it here and there....
making the flash take away some of the wrinkles....

happiness...

happy happy happy..... i'm pretty darn happy.... last friday mikey and i walked downtown just to get out of the house.... we then wandered over to duffy's, a local pub.... the pub scouts, a group of musicians that play traditional irish music play every friday without fail and it was perfect timing.... got there before the crowd.... not one but two melodeon players were there....we sat down with a couple of pints and proceeded to have one of the loveliest late afternoon/early evenings ever.... i feel that being able to recognize moments of bliss and really enjoy them takes carefully honed senses.... i'm getting there... slowly but surely

our first christmas card photo session: 2009
thought i would post some more photos from our "shoot".... which was actually me setting up the camera and running to get into place.... i've been wanting to do this for years.... and i'm so glad i finally did.... mikey was such a good sport too... i think he was even having fun! we both got these union suits when we first starting "seeing" each other... he thought mine was so cool that he had to have one of his own.... wish you could all hear him play his melodeon (which he's holding) he knows so many songs now.... i love that he's gotten into such a random instrument and he so good about practicing.... wish i could say the same.... mikey got me a keyboard last year and i can't say that i practice nearly enough.... need to work on that so we can play together... happy holidays and best wishes for the new year!
love mikey & cadence

Lil' Bro.....
i can't believe my little brother, ethan, is all grown up.... he'll be leaving on december 16th to go on a mission for his church..... for two years! i'm excited for him and very proud of the man he's becoming..... my mixed feelings about what he's actually goign to be doing are really beside the point.....
the fact that he gets to go and live in slovenia and croatia for two years is an experience that is both rewarding and enriching..... and knowing that he truly believes in what he's doing is all that really matters.... i respect him and his beliefs....
i feel extremely fortunate to have a big wonderful family.... one that has been truly blessed with love and respect for each other.....
i'm so excited to see everyone on thanksgiving.... hoping everyone can make it....
i'll miss you ethan!
